Jury Awards $435,000 To Woman Hit By Box At Wal-Mart In Cob. From The Wall Street Journal
A Colorado state court jury ordered Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to pay $435,000 to woman who claimed she was hurt when a 30-pound box fell on her as she shopped in the chain's store in Westminster, Colo.
The suit, filed last year in state District Court in Denver, said Barbara Trujillo, 49 years old, is no longer able to work as a registered nurse as a result of the 1994 incident.
The complaint alleged that Wal-Mart was negligent and breached its duty to "prevent harm to customers."
Jay Allen, a spokesman for Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Ark., said the company plans to appeal the verdict.
